JESSOPS LAUNCH at CARDIFF update As you will know from NEWSFLASH, we were invited to participate in this launch with the offer of providing images for a display of landscapes on 5 plasma screens in exchange for a little publicity for our clubs. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their work, there has been an amazing response with almost 150 images submitted! The WPF's concern was that the images would only be used for the purpose of the launch, to protect your interests, and I discussed this with a member of Jessops head office. I have now received " ....... unfortunately, our instructions have now changed. I have been informed that we wish to promote of our opening offers on the screens during 16th-18th. We would still be interested in receiving images for use after the opening event but cannot guarantee how long they will be used for - which I do understand is an issue for some of your photographers. I can only apologise for the inconvenience but would very much like to see any images we could use on a longer term basis after the opening weekend?" A reply has been sent to Jessops head office which included " .... under these circumstances (we cannot) recommend to our members that they participate in what has become an open ended, unspecified, unpaid commercial activity." BUT, your effort will not have been in vain. Roy Thomas will be holding these images for future PAGB, FIAP and Celtic Challenge competitions. If any photographer has an objection to this please contact me and your images will be deleted. P.S. If the response to submit photographs for display on a TV in a shop was this good, next time there's a request for work, come on everyone, let's have an equally good response and submit your work for display on the world of photography stage. Make Roy's day !!! Philippa
